Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is slow-paced style of yoga as exercise, incorporating principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine with asanas (postures) that are held for longer periods of time than in other styles. A person can stay in one asana for three to five minutes or more. The sequences of postures are meant to stimulate the channels of the subtle body known as meridians in Chines medicine and as Nadis in Hatha yoga.

Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissue of the body—the tendons fasciae, and ligaments with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. A more meditative approach to yoga, its goals are awareness of inner silence, and bringing to light a universal, interconnecting quality.

Research indicates that yin yoga may help develop mindfulness while reducing stress, anxiety, and depression.

Other benefits include:

  • Improves flexibility and lengthens muscles.

  • Lubricates joints, reduces adhesions and strengthens ligaments.

  • Increases joint mobility and reduces tissues degeneration.

  • Detoxifies, hydrates skin, tissues and muscles.

  • Grounds us, slow paced, teaches Mindfulness and is Meditative.

  • Keeps Facia (tissue which surrounds organs, nerves, lymph, muscle) hydrated healthy.

Breathwalk

Breathwalk

Breathwalk is the science of combining specific patterns of breathing synchronized with your walking steps and enhanced with the art of directed, meditative attention. Breathwalk exercises are aimed at producing specific effects to revitalize body, mind, and spirit.

The effects of breathwalking exercises include:

  • Increased energy levels

  • Mood control

  • Refined mental clarity

  • Feelings of connectedness

Breathwalking draws on breathing techniques from yoga and adds exercises and walking cadences to create the desired effect. The effects are backed by research that showed the techniques actually produce the desired effects more than when a person is just plain walking.

The mental and physical benefits of breathwalking are a perfect match for today's workplaces that combine high stress and low physical activity.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga is suitable for people of all levels. By definition, restorative yoga is a restful practice that holds yoga poses (asanas) for a longer duration using props like yoga blocks, blankets, and bolsters. It is a practice of deep relaxation that emphasizes the meditative aspect of yoga—the union of body and mind. Through the use of props for support, many of the postures are held almost effortlessly.

When the body enters a state of relaxation the mind can also consciously relax as tension is released from both body and mind. The only work that's required on your part during a restorative yoga practice is to pay attention to your breath and become aware of any sensations or thoughts that may arise.

While these Western energetic styles of yoga focus on muscular engagement, restorative yoga relaxes the muscles by using props to support the body. In some restorative postures, you will also receive a gentle stretch. Restorative yoga poses are held anywhere from 5–20 minutes.

Benefits

  • Increased relaxation: Deep breathing calms the nervous system to promote relaxation.

  • Better sleep: The more relaxed you are, the better your chances are of getting a good night's rest.

  • Improved well-being: Yoga practices, in general, are commonly associated with improved physical and mental well-being in the general population.

  • Better mood: Research shows that yoga can help those with stress, anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders manage their symptoms.

  • Reduced pain: Studies show that different styles of yoga including restorative yoga are helpful interventions for the management of musculoskeletal pain.

Gentle on the body: Restorative yoga practices are gentle on the joints, and consistent practice can strengthen the connective tissues that surround the bones and joints.

Additionally, clinical research into restorative yoga has found that the practice can be a good resource for those with cancer, noting improvements to psychological well-being. Research shows that restorative yoga can decrease depression in cancer survivors; improve symptoms of anxiety, depression, and pain symptoms in cancer patients; and help patients manage the toxicity of cancer treatments.

Breathwork

BreathwORk

Breathing techniques or Pranayama is controlling the breathing process in a therapeutic way.

Traditionally, breathwork has been used in Psychotherapy for chronic pain, anxiety, PTSD, grief and depression.

More recently, research has documented the benefits of breathing techniques for Covid 19 and coronaphbia - a related panic based psychosis.

Breathwork plays a pivotal role in ridding our bodies of harmful toxins by clearing the lungs, improving lung capacity and respiration.

It oxygenates the blood, thereby energizing and healing the body's cells which boosts our immune system.

Other benefits include:

  • Releases toxins and deposits from the lungs, mucous linings, blood vessels, and other cells.

  • Expands the lung capacity and increases vital strength.

  • Strengthens the nervous system to resist stress.

  • Repairs the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.

Courses

The Green Yoga (TGY) yoga courses take all of the benefits from the Yoga workshops to give participants a focus on a particular issue or health condition. This takes place over a specific length of time with the added benefits of more personalised monitoring and measuring progress through meaningful feedback.

In the main, general yoga classes often require students to focus on their own practice and go inward, holding discussion to a minimum. In our workshops and courses students are encouraged to openly discuss the health topic and explore ways to improve their practice and health, both psychologically and physically. Furthermore, specialty courses provide a more relaxed learning atmosphere where students grow together rather than individually.

A yoga course can actually help to build a safe foundation, and if you want to develop a regular practice, this is another way to do. You will understand the fundamentals via a course and it’s a perfect way to either start your yoga journey, or deepen your understanding from a beginners to a more specific subject area. An added bonus is you will learn how to manage and alleviate long standing issues such as stress or other health conditions. This level of engagement and development is a perfect basis for a more enhanced Program where you will gain integration and elevated personal health.

Programs

Programs

Our programs allow you to progress from our workshop and courses or as a standalone offering to obtain additional relevant supporting lifestyle modalities that support you on your personal and professional Yoga journey. You can enjoy a structured program developed by our multi talented team to enhance your health and development.

The benefits of attending a Yoga Program is life changing and profound on all levels Mentally, Physically, and Spiritually. It’s a powerful opportunity to immerse yourself in the practice of yoga for an extended period of time that enables you to deepen your understanding whilst integrating other health modalities such as Yoga Nutrition  Structural Yoga anatomy and therapeutic massage without the fear of whether you’re good enough or not, or a beginner or experienced.

The extended time for the delivery of a Yoga Program provides space to explore the kriyas/asanas, theory and advanced practice that’s not always available in a regular timetabled class. Our teachers can use the extra time to direct students to pause observe, reflect and synthesise their learning and experience.  Apart form the many ‘aha’ moments, students will experience breakthroughs in their understanding of the theory and internalise the practice. Students will also enjoy more rest time and balance available from other Yoga styles such as cooling Restorative and Yin Yoga with an extended Savasana.

The consecutive nature of a program series means students can build on learning and knowing the same students are returning enables us to plan sessions and progress students in a more structured, beneficial manner. This builds a sense of community cohesion as all students progress and learn together. Over the course of the Program the teacher becomes more familiar with the needs of the group and can direct learning to meet those needs.

Finally, committing to a Yoga program has a positive rippling effect, because it becomes a focus for the day. Many students start to prioritise sleep and rest, so they can optimise their experience. For example, they may eat more nourishing foods and seek out peaceful time between the sessions, perhaps walking in nature or taking a soothing bath or having one of our rejuvenating massages. This instills, regularly healthy lifestyle integration and an opportunity to give yourself a mini retreat experience in preparation for one of our real ones. It can also be a time of internal reflection and reconnecting with your true self whilst in the company of like minded others in a supporting non judgement space.
