How Incorporating Breathwork Changes Our Lives
Helps you sleep better
There is a strong correlation between how we breath and Sleep. The connection between breathing and sleep is 80% of your sleep involves slow, regular breaths, and how we breath at night when we sleep influences the parasympathetic nervous system, which ultimately calms the body, helping you relax. Your breath not only affects how long it takes you to fall asleep but can also determine the overall quality of your rest.
Decreases Stress, anxiety & depression
Increased oxygen delivery to the brain facilitates a focused, intelligent, and neutral state of mind and balances the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems which strengthens both systems to resist stress. Traditionally, breathwork has been used in Psychotherapy for chronic pain, anxiety, PTSD, grief and depression. More recently, research has documented the benefits of breathing techniques for Covid 19 and Coronaphbia - a related panic-based psychosis.
Strengthens the Respiratory System and Immunity
Breathwork or Pranayama plays a pivotal role in ridding our bodies of harmful toxins by clearing the lungs, mucous linings, blood vessels, and other cells. Therefore, improving lung capacity and respiration which oxygenates the blood. This energises, heals the body's cells and boosts our immune system which may help prevent many diseases. Importantly, the recent COVID19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of breathing better.
Improves attention & concentration
Oxygen is the element that our cells need to create energy, to keep us going and to make us perform at higher levels. Therefore, increased levels of oxygen help us perform better, giving energy to both our mind and body. If we lack oxygen we are not able to perform physically, and we will feel tired and experience fatigue. Focused breath increases our concentration and gives us more energy.
